About Me
Carmel Conway | SDSHom MCMA
The 18 years spent working in the travel industry were great fun, I enjoyed the fast pace, the excitement and even the stress that can come with this type of career. But in the midst of it all I developed IBS, an intestinal disorder causing pain and discomfort, probably aggravated by a busy and stressful lifestyle.
Conventional treatment was unsuccessful so I consulted a homeopath. After only one homeopathic prescription, I felt so much better. Further visits to the homeopath for remedies and advice, saw continued improvement and slowly I regained my health.
This positive experience set me on a path of learning that resulted in four years of study at the South Downs School of Homeopathy, and in 2008, I gained a license to practice.
I have been practicing homeopathy ever since, and I am still learning about this wonderful and natural system of medicine. I keep my skills up to date by attending regular workshops and lectures, and more recently have embarked on counselling skills training. I see people with all sorts of health issues and over the years have developed a special interest in the following areas:
Digestive Diseases
My own experience prompted me to delve into this topic further, and for my final year dissertation I prepared a homeopath’s guide to inflammatory bowel disease. It explores conventional, complementary, alternative and homeopathic treatments. I learned what an important role diet can play, and was fascinated to discover that gut health has a strong connection with mental health.
Mental Health
Anxiety is on the increase according to Anxiety UK, and it’s worth considering the possible links with gut dysbiosis and inflammation. I use homeopathic remedies to support mental health, as well dietary advice to support gut health. My counselling skills mean I can give clients the appropriate time and space to discuss any mental health concerns, if needed.
Mother and Baby Health
As a new mother in 2002 I was grateful to have my homeopath on hand for support and advice. Drawing on my own experience of motherhood, I aim to give parents the confidence to use homeopathy for common minor complaints instead of reaching for the Calpol. I run short workshops on holistic first aid, and supporting children through coughs colds and fevers.
When not practicing homeopathy I work with a local charity. As a community health volunteer I encourage and promote healthy lifestyles through one to one coaching. I also work with a community group whose aim is to support parents and carers of children with special needs and disabilities, in partnership with local charities.
I’m a member of the Complementary Medical Association, a not-for-profit, highly respected membership organisation for complementary, medical, and natural healthcare professionals.
Originally from the north of England I moved to Hove in 1995 and immediately felt it was a place I could call home. I now live in West Hove with my husband, son and Basil the dog.
